Emergency Medicine Grand Rounds at UTHealth Houston

The Emergency Department represents a unique an important opportunity to identify elder mistreatment and to initiate intervention -- I appreciate the opportunity (thanks to colleague, friend, and national leader Charles Maddow) recently to present Emergency Medicine Grand Rounds at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston). Thanks to Hannah Foshee for sharing her social work expertise and insights in advice. Thanks to chief residents Evan Genova and Gunnar Reichenberger, interim chief Samuel Luber, MD, MPH, FACEP, and old friend Mary-Kate Gorlick, MD for welcoming me. Residents were very engaged and had thoughtful questions about how to operationalize in their practice.

I was actually in Houston for a great conference/meeting hosted by the folks at the Texas Elder Abuse and Mistreatment Institute (TEAM) to to explore how to improve ED/hospital response to elder mistreatment -- and to posthumously honor Carmel Dyer for her extraordinary contribution to the field -- a really great trip!
