Excellence in Medical Education Award recipient

It's great to work in a community of folks devoted to medical education! I was honored to recently receive a Weill Cornell Medicine Excellence in Medical Education Award (along with 37 colleagues, including 3 other folks from the Department of Emergency Medicine -- Elisa Aponte, Sam Senturia, and Richard Lappin). As a graduate of Weill Cornell and the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency program, it was really cool to be awarded alongside many amazing educators who taught me as a student and post-graduate trainee! Thanks very much to Senior Associate Dean for Education, Joseph Safdieh MD, for leading the ceremony and to Associate Dean for Curricular Affairs Erika Abramson and Assistant Director of Education for Anesthesiology June Chan. I was recognized for my contribution to the Health Policy course (thanks to course directors Nathaniel Hupert and Mary Ann Hernando for the opportunity!) Link to article here.

My presentation to the students was focused on long-term care, home-based care and post-acute rehabilitation for older adults in the US Healthcare System. I think that the complexities of how this care is actually paid for -- and the impact of these costs on older adults and families -- are often not well understood by healthcare providers. I'm excited to have the opportunity to teach medical students about this super-important issue -- so that they can be better informed to help, support, and advocate for patients and families.
