JAGS article: Long term trajectory of VEPT patients

Colleagues and I recently reported in Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (JAGS) (also here) on our examination of the long-term trajectory of older adults receiving intervention from the Vulnerable Elder Protection Team (VEPT) , a first-of-its-kind Emergency Department (ED) / hospital interdisciplinary consultation service created in 2017 for older adults experiencing mistreatment.

The analysis was led by Danny Baek and depended on follow-up calls made by Elaine Gottesman. We found improved post-discharge safety for elder mistreatment victims who engaged with the VEPT program, with this increased safety durable over 1 year. Re-presentations highlighted the complexity of elder mistreatment intervention. Overall, our findings demonstrated the potential value of an ED/hospital-based elder mistreatment response team, a promising new geriatric care model.
