According to a recent NEJM Group / New England Journal of Medicine article co-authored by colleague, collaborator (and courtesy research faculty member within our Weill Cornell Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine!) Kristin Lees Haggerty as well as geriatrics leader David Reuben: "Health care professionals are expected to recognize signs of self-neglect and to intervene, but they face clinical, social, and ethical dilemmas when considering whether, when, and how to take action." Read more about this perspective on self-neglect in older people, a common geriatric syndrome that is very difficult to manage.
