I was excited to contribute to a manuscript just published by Prehospital Emergency Medicine led by David Hancock exploring documentation of elder mistreatment by prehospital clinicians.
Even though elder mistreatment is common and prehospital clinicians may be in a unique position to identify it, this study of the national NEMSIS database found that these prehospital clinicians very infrequently document EM in their encounters with older adults. This suggests that additional training and comprehensive protocols may be helpful.
Great work by Dr. Hancock and all of the co-authors: William Haussner, Iggy E-Shien Chang, PhD, MA, Rana Barghout, Joshua Lachs, Kristin Lees Haggerty, Brad Cannell, Sharon Xuan Zhang, Brock Daniels, Michael Stern, and Rahul Sharma, MD, MBA, FACEP.
