Publication in GSA's Innovation in Aging

Understanding how to optimally integrate elder abuse response into the healthcare system requires understanding the perspectives of frontline clinicians. Qualitative research can play an important role in improving this understanding. It was a pleasure to contribute to Lena Makaroun's important work published in the Gerontological Society of America (GSA)'s Innovation in Aging that uses interviews with clinicians from multiple disciplines within a large integrated healthcare system to explore barriers and facilitators to intervening on elder abuse. We found that efforts to enhance skills training, build trusting relationships, and improve system infrastructure may help to equip clinicians to engage in healthcare system interventions to reduce harm from elder abuse.
